Mercedes-Benz GLS - the third generation of the flagship SUV "Mercedes" submitted in April 2019 at the New York Auto Show.

The "S-Class among SUVs" in the new generation moved to the MHA platform, became 77 mm longer and 22 mm wider, and the wheelbase grew by 60 mm. The seats of the third row can be folded into the floor, and the second - into a flat surface. In this case, the trunk volume reaches 2400 liters. In addition, for the first time, you can choose between a seven- and six-seater saloon, and in the six-seater version, the second row can have two separate seats with armrests, adjustments, massage and separate climate settings. And for the third row, options such as heated seats and USB ports for charging gadgets have been prepared.

For second-row passengers, an entertainment system with two 11.6-inch touchscreen displays or a separate tablet can also be installed, for which there is a place in the center armrest. This tablet controls all the "comfort" functions and the MBUX on-board multimedia system.

The gesture recognition system of the MBUX system on the third generation GLS distinguishes between the hands of the driver and the front passenger and, based on this, offers each its own menu and the possibility of storing functions. It is constantly self-learning, analyzing past events, and anticipates the wishes of users.

Already by default, the car is equipped with adaptive Multibeam LED headlights (112 LEDs per headlight) and LED lights with a three-dimensional effect. Also, the SUV is equipped with Airmatic air suspension with adaptive dampers. One interesting function of the model deserves special attention - Carwash (“washing mode”), when mirrors are folded with one click, the sunroof and windows are closed, the rain sensor is blocked, the climate control switches to recirculation mode, and the clearance increases to the maximum value, so that there is easier to clean the wheel arches. The mode is turned off when the speed exceeds 20 km / h.

The adaptive cruise control on the Mercedes-Benz GLS not only maintains a safe distance, but can also reduce speed in advance when approaching the tail of a traffic jam. After overcoming it, the electronics automatically returns to the previously set pace, but at the same time, it also monitors the speed limit signs.

The first GLS of the new iteration arrived in Ukraine in September 2019. These are vehicles with a six-cylinder in-line engine OM 656: GLS 350 d 4MATIC with 286 hp. and GLS 400 d 4MATIC with 330 hp output. All units are combined with a 9G-Tronic 9-speed "automatic" and all-wheel drive based on an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch transfer case that distributes traction between the axles. Claimed average fuel consumption is 7.9 - 7.6 l / 100 km, and acceleration 0-100 km / h is 7.0 and 6.3 seconds for the GLS 350 and GLS 400, respectively.

In addition, the GLS has a 580 4MATIC petrol version with a V8 engine and a 48-volt EQ Boost motor generator. The power of the internal combustion engine is 489 hp, and when accelerating for a short time, the motor-generator can add 22 hp. The 48-volt network also powers the air conditioning and coolant pumps. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle for this version is promised at the level of 9.8–10.0 l/100 km.

Another "highlight" of the car with a 48-volt system is the optional E-Active Body Control hydropneumatic suspension. It controls the degree of elasticity and resistance of shock absorbers on each wheel separately, which makes it better resists rolls, pecks and can help you get out of the sand trap.
