mercedes-benz e-class W213 - The fifth generation (if you count only models with the E-class designation) of the premium sedan debuted in January 2016 at the Detroit Auto Show. The four-door inherited the signature interior and exterior design of the flagship S class, and also acquired the most modern electronic assistants of the German automaker.
In the new generation, the E-class was built on the MRA modular platform, which related the car to the C- and S-class and made the car lighter by about 100 kg by replacing part of the steel body components with aluminum. The sedan added 43 mm in length (up to 4923 mm) and became a little wider. At the same time, the wheelbase immediately grew by 65 mm - up to 2939 mm, which is only 25 mm less than the same parameter of the "old man" S-Class W220 in the standard version.
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been seriously improved aerodynamics. The drag coefficient reached a record value for the segment of 0.23 (against 0.25 for the previous generation). Depending on the modification, active blinds can be installed behind the radiator grille, as well as in the bumper. Pictured is a Mercedes-Benz E 220 d AVANTGARDE.
The interior design is also in many ways similar to the interior design of the older "brother". The basic versions are equipped with an arrow instrument panel and an 8.4-inch screen of a multimedia complex. And older performances by example S class equipped with a large block of two displays with a diagonal of 12.3 inches and a resolution of 1920x720 pixels. In the latter case, the “dashboard” has three pre-configured design options, touchpads are placed on the steering wheel to control the entertainment system, and the interior is additionally illuminated by LED backlighting with 64 colors. In addition to this, expensive versions of the sedan can be equipped with a 23-speaker Burmester audio system for an extra charge.
At the presentation of the model, the management of Mercedes-Benz called the E-Class W213 the smartest car in the segment, and quite rightly - the car can be armed with three radars, 12 sonars, one stereo camera and four conventional all-round cameras. They are used during "unmanned" parking (used as a regular smartphone) and driving on highways or city roads.
Adaptive cruise control maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead at speeds up to 210 km/h. Electronics is trained to slow down the sedan, taking into account the restrictions and signs in force on this section of the road. The steering system not only follows the markings, but at speeds up to 130 km/h takes into account the location of extended structures (separating barriers, walls, etc.) and the movement of neighboring vehicles. This helps the on-board system to keep the car in the lane with poorly visible markings.
In the new E-Class, you can even find a heated center armrest and door armrests.
But that's not all - with an automatic stop, the "autopilot" is able to resume movement without a driver's command even after 30 seconds of inactivity. The automatic braking system is now able to recognize cars in a traffic jam and starts slowing down in advance, while the Active Lane-change Assistant system independently performs a lane change maneuver by pressing the steering column lever.

The basic suspension of the E-Class W213 is with steel springs, but in three stiffness options: “comfortable”, conditionally medium stiffness “avant-garde” and sports (the last two are underestimated by 15 mm). As an additional option, a multi-chamber Air Body Control air suspension with stiffness adjustment is offered. Owners of "Eshek" with pneumatic elements are free to choose their own suspension modes and operation of the power plant from the Comfort, ECO, Sport, Sport + and Individual options.
E-class engines develop from 150 to 612 hp. The extensive range includes petrol and diesel “turbo-fours”, as well as V6 and V8 units (on the “charged” AMG E 63 and E 63 S). Transmissions - 9-speed "automatic" 9G-Tronic, and on older AMG versions - 9-band "robot" AMG Speedshift.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is produced at the company's plant in the German city of Sindelfingen.
