Mercedes-Benz SL-Class - The debut of the current generation of the car (index R231) took place in January 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show. The car received a new range of gasoline engines, a five-speed automatic gave way to a seven-speed one, three options for a folding hardtop appeared, aluminum elements of the body structure reduced the weight of the model by 140 kilograms compared to its predecessor, while the body of the model became 20 percent stronger.
As standard, the top of the Mercedes-Benz SL roof is made of solid metal, but as an option, a roof with a panoramic glass section with a sunshade or a panoramic section of photochromic glass is offered. In the latter case, it becomes possible to adjust the degree of its transparency, darkening or making it more translucent. In all three versions, the roof is equipped with electric drives that hide it in the trunk in less than 20 seconds.
The size of the cargo compartment is very impressive for cars of this class - 504 liters with the top up or 364 liters with it folded. Having ordered an additional sensor, you can open and close the trunk lid simply by sliding your foot under the rear bumper.
The range of gasoline engines in the early years of production included a 3.5-liter V6 (306 hp) and a 4.7-liter V8 (435 hp). Both were mated to a seven-speed automatic.
In addition, the model has two sports modifications - SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG. In the first case, the roadster is aggregated with a 5.5-liter V8 with a capacity of 537 hp, and in the second - with a 6.0-liter V12 with a capacity of 630 hp. In both cases, robotic seven-speed gearboxes are used as a transmission.
Later restyled versions of the Mercedes-Benz SL received more efficient powertrains and a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The 3.0 V6 engine on the SL 400 modification already produces 367 hp, and the 4.7 V8 engine on the SL 500 produces 455 hp. The sports AMG version of the SL 63 has also become more powerful - the 5.5 V8 engine now produces 585 hp.
Mercedes-Benz SL is assembled at the company's plant in the German city of Bremen.
