Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) - rear- or all-wheel drive sedan, which is offered in regular (5116 mm) and extended (5248 mm) versions. It is noteworthy that the new platform on which the S-Class is built was originally developed specifically for the long version, and only then it was “cut” for a model with a short wheelbase.
The company explains this approach by the fact that it is often the inhabitants of the sofa who buy the sedan, which means that it should be built around the passengers of the gallery. So, if the 5.1-meter version is available exclusively in a five-seater version, then for the Mercedes, which reaches a length of almost 5.3 meters, a four-seater version with two separate rear seats is offered.
Both the headlights, and the lights, and all the interior lighting are LED - there are almost 500 LED elements in total. Thanks to the advanced optional Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus adaptive lighting system, the front optics have learned to manage the beams of light even better, without blinding other road users and at the same time providing the best visibility to the driver. According to the developers, the electronics that work in tandem with the camera is so effective that it allows you to drive at least all the time with the high beam on.
From now on, LED lights know firsthand the saying “fear has big eyes” - the degree of their brightness depends not only on the intensity of braking, but also on the traffic situation. For example, if there is a threat of a rear-end collision at maximum brightness, an “emergency flasher” may turn on, warning the driver behind the driver of the danger of a collision. But before that, in order to reduce the consequences of a possible accident, active seat belt pretensioners carefully pull riders to their seats.
The new aluminum body allowed not only to lose weight (almost 100 kg), but also to install a lot of radars and sensors that control the situation around the car. At speeds up to 50 km / h, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is ready to slow down on its own not only to avoid a frontal accident, but also a side collision. In traffic jams, the car can stop without the participation of the driver and, keeping a distance, move behind the car in front.
The new S-Class is the first mass-produced Mercedes-Benz to feature less-than-conventional inflatable seat belts for rear passengers.
But the main innovation was the optional Magic Body Control adaptive chassis system, which adapts to road conditions not in real time, but in advance. The stereo camera scans the surface and direction of the road and sends a signal in advance to the electronics to reconfigure the suspension for a specific situation: be it a sharp turn or an uneven road. The new control system is available only for models with V8 engines, in all other cases the sedan is equipped with a conventional air suspension, for which you can order a roll control system for an extra charge.
It is noteworthy that the brakes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are also adaptive. On the slopes, the anti-recoil system is automatically activated, and during the rain, the brake discs can even be specially dried at all, so that in an emergency they will always be in the best shape. The pads are imperceptible to the driver, but under the vigilant control of the stabilization system, they are pressed against the disc, thereby removing water from it.
Numerous options include a night vision system, massage seats with selective zone heating, heated armrests, a panoramic roof, and two Burmester audio systems: one regular with 13 speakers (590 watts) and the other “3D” with 24 speakers (1540 watts). ). The regular 100-watt "music" S-Class has 10 speakers.
In the first year of sales, the list of modifications consisted of two hybrid, diesel and gasoline models:
S300 Hybrid - as a power plant it uses a 204-horsepower diesel “four” with a volume of 2.2 liters + a 15-kilowatt electric motor;
S350 - diesel engine with a volume of 3 liters (258 hp);
S400 Hybrid - petrol V6 with a volume of 3.5 liters (306 hp) + 20-kilowatt electric motor;
S500 - gasoline V8 with a volume of 4.7 liters and a power of 455 hp (+20 hp compared to its predecessor).
All power plants are paired with a seven-speed automatic. All-wheel drive modifications and new engines appeared in 2014.
