Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W221) - luxury executive sedan, produced from 2005 to 2013. Soon the current generation of the model will give way new generation, which made its public debut in May 2013.
The car is offered both in a rear-wheel drive version and with a proprietary 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive system, which distributes engine torque between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 45:55. All-wheel drive is available only for modifications of the S350 and S500, that is, for models that are aggregated with petrol engines of 3.5 (V6, 306 hp) and 4.7 liters (V8, 435 hp).
In addition, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available both with a standard wheelbase and with an extended one. In the first case, the length of the car is 5,096 mm, and in the Long version it reaches 5,226 mm. In the latter case, passengers get even more free space on the back sofa.
All versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are equipped with AirMatic air suspension. As an option, an adaptive suspension with an active body position control system is also available, smoothing out not only vibrations due to poor road surfaces, but also taking into account the influence of crosswinds.
Traditionally, the S-Class embodied all the latest achievements of the German brand. Customers are offered several options for leather upholstery and wood trim, heated, ventilated and massage seats, a variety of electric drives, night vision systems and a long list of active safety technologies.
The base transmission is a seven-speed automatic 7G-Tronic, but the most powerful versions of the S600 (V12, 517 hp) and S 65 AMG (630 hp) use a five-speed automatic.
