Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class - compact front- or all-wheel drive crossover. The serial version of the first generation of the model (X247) was introduced in June 2019 in the USA. Vehicle production started at the end of the same year (2020 model year). In the brand hierarchy, the new GLB has taken its place between the models GLA And GLC.
The Mercedes GLB is built on the same transverse engine front-wheel drive platform as the A-Class (W177), B-Class (W247), CLA-Class (C118) and GLA-Class (H247). At the same time, the length of the GLB is only 35 mm less than the updated GLC: it has 4634 mm from bumper to bumper. In width, the GLB is inferior to its older brother 56 mm (1834 mm), but in height, on the contrary, it surpasses it by 14 mm (1658 mm). The wheelbase of the GLB model is 2829 mm versus 2699 for the current GLA and 2873 mm for the older GLC.
The interior is designed in the same style as the current generations of the A-class, B-class and CLA. The SUV received a virtual instrument cluster, the MBUX media system and ventilation deflectors in the form of “turbines”. The GLB boasts the same options as its sister models, including power front seats, an Energizing massager, Multibeam headlights and adaptive cruise control.
Salon Mercedes GLB can be five- or seven-seater with a third row of seats, for which ISOFIX standard child seat mountings are provided. The back of the second row is divided into three parts in the ratio 40/20/40, and each of them has seven positions in terms of the angle of inclination. In addition, you can order longitudinal seat adjustment with an adjustment range of 140 mm. In addition, among the options - a folding front passenger seat.
In a car in a five-seater configuration, the trunk holds a minimum of 560 liters “under the shelf”. This volume can be increased by 179 liters by moving the second row as far forward as possible, and in a two-seat configuration, a compartment with a volume of 1755 liters is formed. If the third row of seats is installed on the GLB, with the backs up, only a small luggage will fit in the trunk.
The crossover debuted in petrol and diesel versions. The base Mercedes GLB 200 received a 1.3 petrol turbo engine (163 hp) and a 7G-DCT dual clutch gearbox. The rest of the versions are provided with a more modern eight-speed “robot” 8G-DCT, which previously appeared on the B-class: these are gasoline GLB 250 (2.0 l, 224 hp) and diesel modifications GLB 180 d (116 hp), GLB 200 d (2.0 l, 150 hp) and GLB 220 d (2.0 l, 190 hp).
The initial versions are front-wheel drive. The optional 4Matic transmission is equipped with a multi-plate rear axle clutch that always works with preload: even in the most “relaxed” Eco/Comfort driving modes, at least 20% of the “traction” is transferred to the rear. In addition, an Off-Road Engineering Package is available for order - a set that includes an “off-road” driving electronics mode, hill descent and hill start assistance systems, wheel position visualization on the media system screen, as well as a wide-angle Multibeam headlight mode.
The “charged” Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC is equipped with a 2.0-liter power unit (306 hp, 400 Nm) and an AMG Speedshift DCT 8G preselective gearbox. This car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
Regardless of engines and transmissions, all Mercedes GLBs have rear independent suspension. Adaptive dampers are available as an option.
The global version of the Mercedes-Benz GLB is produced in Mexico. Vehicles for the Chinese market roll off the assembly line of the Beijing Benz JV in China.
