Mercedes-Benz G-Class - an updated version of the five-door all-wheel drive "Gelendvagen" (W463). World premiere SUV took place in January 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show.

Retaining the "square" style with a recognizable grille and round headlights, the G-Class received a new hood, a more streamlined front bumper, LED optics and other door handles. The SUV is still based on a ladder-type frame, which is more durable and resistant to loads than load-bearing bodies. But its torsional rigidity has increased by 55% as a result of modernization. The overall dimensions of the car have also changed - the novelty is 53 mm longer (4715 mm) and 121 mm wider (1881 mm) than its predecessor, and at the same time 170 kg lighter (the hood, fenders and doors are made of aluminum, and the frame is made of high-strength steel grades) .

The front suspension is now independent, with double wishbones. At the back there is a continuous bridge, but with four trailing arms and a Panhard rod. The Gelendvagen suspension was developed jointly with the engineers of the Mercedes-AMG division, which promises excellent handling not only on off-road, but also on ordinary roads.

The reformed G-Class received an increased ground clearance of 6 mm (up to 241 mm between the axles). The depth of the ford to be overcome has been increased by 10 cm (up to 70 cm). The exit angle was 30º, and the entrance angle was 31º (+1º), ramps - 26º (+1º).

The driver has five driving modes to choose from, which are switched using the Dynamic Select system selector: Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual and off-road G-Mode. They affect the settings of the electric power steering, adaptive dampers and powertrain, as well as permanent all-wheel drive systems with a reduction gear and three differential locks. 

The interior has become more spacious, and elements made of metal, carbon, wood and leather can be used in its design. In addition, the new G-Class has a dashboard with two widescreen displays: the first is located directly in the driver's field of vision, and the main one is above the center console. Located under a common glass, these two displays with a diagonal of 12.3 inches visually merge into a single dashboard, the images on which can be configured in one of three styles: "Classic", "Sporty" or "Progressive".

Hidden under the center armrest is an illuminated compartment for small items, and for a surcharge, you can install wireless charging for smartphones. In front of the touchpad, above the center console, there are two removable cup holders and a compartment for accommodating small items. The back of the rear row of seats does not have a rigid fixation, which allows you to vary the space in the cabin.

For the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Active Multicontour Seats package is available, which provides for the installation of a massage system, ventilation and quick heating. Airbags are integrated into the sides of the backrests of these seats, which smoothly inflate or deflate depending on the driving dynamics, which is especially convenient when cornering at high speeds. Optional for the SUV is a 590-watt Burmester speaker system with 16 speakers and a power amplifier.

The start of sales of the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class is scheduled for July 2018. Serial production of the model is organized at the plant of Magna International in Graz, Austria.
