Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe - the new generation of the two-door E-class (C238) was presented in December 2016 and debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2017. The model is also available in bodies sedan, station wagon and convertible.
The new E-class inherited the main design features of the flagship S-class and increased in size. So the length of the body increased by 123 mm (up to 4,826 mm), and the wheelbase - by 113 mm (up to 2,873 mm). From the previous generation, the novelty adopted side glazing without central pillars and tiny triangles of windows at the back, and the rear LED lights became the “highlight” of the two-door, which signal the opening of the door locks by illuminating stripes from the center line to the sides, and when closed they work in reverse order.
Thanks to the transition to the new MRA platform, the E-class coupe received a front module unified with the E-class sedan with a double wishbone suspension and a floor up to the second row of seats, while the rear floor segment and multi-link suspension have common design solutions with both the E-class sedan and with C-class. At the same time, the car became more spacious inside. The driver and front passenger have 18 mm of additional headroom, and 50 mm have been added in the shoulders. For second-row passengers, an additional 74 mm are allocated in the knee zone, 15 mm above the heads and 13 mm between the elbows.
For a surcharge on the E-class coupe, you can install AirBody Control air suspension, as well as 19- or 20-inch wheels.
In general, the interior of the two-door version is almost identical to that of the E-class sedan, but the coupe received turbine-styled ventilation vents and reinforced A-pillars. The seat belt here gives a special mechanism, and you can lower not only the front, but also the rear side windows. Automatic door closers are available as an option for the coupe.
The initial versions are based on analog devices, and for expensive versions, a “TV” of two displays with a diagonal of 12.3 inches is available. Interestingly, the multimedia and entertainment complex of the car is controlled by touchpads on the steering wheel, as well as using a rotary controller and a touchpad on the center console.
The E-Class Coupe is equipped with petrol and diesel turbo engines ranging from 184 to 333 hp. All engines are mated to a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic, but a 6-speed manual is also available for the base petrol version of the E 200.
