mercedes-benz a-class - the fourth generation of the model (W177) presented in February 2017. This is the first Mercedes with the new generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system and the first A-Class with optional entry-level autopilot.
The hatchback is created in the design concept of "sensual purity", which is expressed in the alternation of clear contours and smooth lines. The aggressive design of the front of the car is emphasized by a tilted hood and slanted headlights with arrow-shaped daytime running lights, and in many ways resembles the new Mercedes-Benz CLS. The rear door openings have also been enlarged, which will be especially appreciated by tall passengers, the front pillars have been made thinner, and the side mirror mounts have shifted to the window sill line of the front doors (Mercedes announced a 10 percent improvement in visibility behind the wheel).
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is built on the MFA platform with a transverse powertrain. When changing generations, the front track of the five-door was expanded by 14 mm, and the wheelbase was increased by 30 mm (up to 2729 mm). The five-door added 120 mm in length (up to 4419 mm), and also became 16 mm higher and 7 mm wider. Low-power versions received a semi-independent rear suspension, and a multi-link is provided only for cars with engines with a capacity of more than 200 hp. and all-wheel drive versions. The design of the suspension has not fundamentally changed, but the proportion of aluminum elements has been increased in it. As with the previous generation, for the A-Class, you can order a sports suspension with a ground clearance reduced by 15 mm or adaptive dampers.

If the changes in exterior design can be called evolutionary, then a real revolution has taken place in the A-class cabin. The new Mercedes received a single widescreen panel without a visor, which combines the displays of the dashboard and multimedia system. Two 7-inch displays are installed on the base cars, a 7-inch dashboard display and a 10.25-inch media complex screen are provided for the “medium” ones, and for top-end versions such 10.25-inch displays are used both in the “tidy” and in the media complex.
The new multimedia MBUX for the first time offered A-class customers touch control (a touchpad on the central tunnel is also available, but as an additional option). There is also advanced voice control, activated by the phrase "Hey Mercedes", and a navigation system with augmented reality technology (the picture from the front video camera superimposes on the image, for example, house numbers). The ambient lighting palette has been expanded from 12 to 64 colors, and it is even integrated into the ventilation system deflectors.
In addition, the new A-class has acquired optional multi-contour seats - with adjustable pneumatic chambers, ventilation and massage. The backrest of the rear seat is adjustable in angle and is offered in two versions with a division into two (60:40) or three parts (40:20:40).
The new semi-autonomous driving system analyzes the situation in front of the car at a distance of up to 500 meters using a camera and radar. The A-class with such equipment maintains a distance to the car in front, taxis and, if the driver turned on the turn signal and the sensors did not see any interference, it independently changes lanes. This system works at speeds up to 210 km / h, and up to 130 km / h, the electronics can work even without road markings, focusing on other cars and road boundaries.
The starting engine range of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 consists of four modifications: two variants of the A 200, as well as the A 250 and A 180d. The "Dvuhsotka" can be equipped with a mechanical six-speed or a 7-speed "robot" 7G-DCT with a double "wet" clutch, which Daimler developed together with Getrag. The same transmission is installed on the A 180d, while the A 250 hatchback is equipped with a modernized 7G-DCT gearbox of Daimler's own design.
In the optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, a replacement was made - the rear wheel coupling was equipped with an electromechanical actuator instead of a less “nimble” electro-hydraulic unit. Depending on the driving situation, all available torque can be transferred to the front or rear axle.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177 is planned to be produced at five plants: in Germany, Hungary, Finland, China and Mexico.
